Into Week 4 For Hundred Pushups
Over the past few weeks, there seems to be a similiar buzz around some top fitness blogs. Among those that consistently appeared as updated on my Google Reader are Get Fit Slowly and Lazy Man’s Health.
All of them are talking about one similar thing, the HundredPushups.com challenge. The goal of this challenge is to be able to do 100 pushups continuously after 6 weeks. Not knee pushups. That’s for sissies.
It breaks down the challenge into 6 weeks, 3 days for each week. Depending how fit and strong you are, you are to fall under different columns of the challenge for each day. Each column is then divided into 5 levels with different reps, with 60-90 seconds break in between.
Since I’ve nothing much to do over here and already missing the gym and spinning sessions quite badly, this challenge couldn’t come at a better time. I’ve just finished Day 1 of Week 4 on Column 2. That’s 22, 16, 16, 14 and 22 (min) reps all together. The last level was the hardest and I was aiming to do 32, but only managed to dig out 25, which I think is not that bad after all.
Today’s rest day. So, back to Day 2 for tomorrow!
Sports Overdose
I realized there’s one good thing about this hotel. They have all the TV channels that I ever need to keep myself occupied every night. There are more than 100 channels for me to choose from, but I found myself switching between only 2 channels - ESPN and Supersports.
Good. I only need to remember 2 numbers on my remote. That’s more than enough unless I suddenly develop unusual interests in Hindi movies.
Things started with Roland Garros for 2 weeks when I arrived. I’ve never held a tennis racket before, so forget about playing it. But, I love watching tennis, both Masters events and Grand Slams.
When Roland Garros ended, EURO2008 started and it kept me entertained every night until the quater-final stages last weekend. One good thing to be in India during EURO2008 is because of it’s time zone. The early match starts at 9.30pm and the late match starts at 12.15am. It won’t be that early in the morning even if the matches go into penalty shootouts, in which they did. Otherwise, I’ll have a really hard time getting up for work back in KL.
Wimbledon started last Sunday. It’s still in the early rounds though. Matches aren’t that interesting yet, but Djokovic is already out after losing to Safin. I’m sure there will be more tennis coming up for me in the next 10 days.
The 3 weeks long Tour de France starts 1 day before the final of Wimbledon. I only started watching this event last year and it was fun to watch even though I know little about professional cycling teams and tactics back then.
Astana is banned from participating. Speaking of Astana and it’s riders, 3 of them who have a very good chance of winning; last year’s winner Alberto Contador, Andreas Kloden and Levi Leipheimer won’t be featuring. Let’s hope there will be more attacks and counter attacks on the mountain stages like what happened last year between Alberto Contador and Michael Rasmussen, even though 3 big riders are out.
And…not forgetting the Formula 1 races in between all those weekends as well.
When Tour de France ends, that’s when my project here will end. Looks like everything besides work is well panned out now.
4 more weeks to go, and counting!
The End for France & Italy?
Italy 1 France 0, after Pirlo’s penalty.
Seriously though, I would love to see both of the 2006 World Cup finalists crash out of the group stage of EURO2008 tonight. Even though Italy is leading now, I still think Romania will beat Holland and go through to the quaters with Holland.
Simple reasoning here. If either Italy or France goes through the quaters with Holland, there is a huge possibility they might play each other again in the semis if they beat their opponents in the quaters. And if my name is Marco van Basten, that would be the last thing I want. You just don’t know when these top teams will hit their peak form, and they can do just so in a blink of an eye.
I feel sorry for France when I saw their starting 11 earlier just now. Abidal, an attacking left back playing in central defense, with Toni around? Or would you rather play Thuram, who was very often exposed against the Dutch? Whoever plays, France is doomed.
For the first 20 minutes or so, Abidal has been exposed several times and it means that something is just waiting to happen. 10 minutes earlier, they had Ribery stretched off and replaced by Nasri. I feel sorry for Nasri though, as his appearance only lasted for 10 minutes after being subbed when Abidal was sent off.
As I’m writing this entry, Toni has just missed 2 glorious chances to finish off the game for good and allow me to have my good night sleep. But, his shooting range has gone all wrong, and I’m still stucked at watching the match.
Let’s see if Romania goes through?
