Something to Gain?

Didn’t realized that my previous post was almost 3 weeks ago!

You know, sometimes I’m just tired of the nature of my job. I know, I shouldn’t be complaining much about it because there are so many of my friends who wants a job like mine, but they just couldn’t. It looked good to people from outside, but when you’re doing this over and over again, it certainly don’t look that good afterall.

Why?

Because you couldn’t lead a normal lifestyle and your personal schedule for the whole year would be, basically screwed up. I couldn’t plan for my own vacations weeks ahead.

Forget about planning for months ahead.

Forget about buying cheap Air Asia tickets during promotions…

Forget about asking me to go climb Mount Kinabalu next year…

Forget about asking me when my diving trip are…

Forget about vacations…

I’ll go right away when I’m around.

All my vacations for the past 3 years were based on last minute planning. The longest planning ahead - 10 days. Came back to office, realized that I’ll be around for the next 2-3 weeks, applied leave, booked my flight and go…

There were one exception though, and that was my vacation to Hong Kong last year. This too, had to be postponed after I’ve booked my flight 6 months earlier. Then I planned for a new date which was coincidently so, so close to my project completion date. Paid the penalty fee to change the flight and it almost got postponed again if not because I stodd my ground after some big arguments and threats from the project team.

If I’m going on a vacation on my own (in which I don’t see a point of it), then I would have no problems with all these. I can have last minute planning for myself, but not my girlfriend. You don’t go tell your boss, Hey I’m going away for the next 1-2 weeks starting tomorrow! when you are doing technical support where the team is already overworked, even with you around.

At the end of the day, you have to sacrifice something for all the gains, don’t you? If you feel that the gains are well worth the sacrifices, then why not? :D

And that is why I’m going back to again for 2 months from next week. I’m already expecting this trip long long ago. It’s just a matter WHEN. Sadly to say, it’ll be during a time where there were serial bombings in Jaipur, a city which I spent a month there last year.

Dive At Pulau Redang!

Finally, after a few time schedule changes in the past few months, I’ll be heading to Pulau Redang this weekend. This will be my second trip. The previous trip was back in April 2005 when I was on vacation after finishing my university studies.

Back then, our tour package includes a Discover Scuba dive. We paid the same usual price, and the Discover Scuba dive came as a courtesy of Matta Fair. Had a 45 minutes crash course and we headed straight to the bottom. It was really fun to be underwater, even though all (mostly) all we saw are rocks and some fishes. After that trip, I told myself I’ll get my PADI Open Water Diver license and start exploring what’s beneath the ocean.

And after 3 years of waiting (due to my job nature and etc, etc), I’ve got what I want.

So, this time around, I’ll be there for some real diving!
